Liebherr RTs on show in Paris

15 March 2018

Liebherr will show an update to its successful 172 EC-B 8 Litronic flat-top tower crane. It will also present its new rough-terrain cranes, as it re-enters this market.

Turning first to the tower crane, among other changes, the working range has been increased. The jib has been lengthened by 2.5m to an outreach of 62.5m. The jib has been more finely divided, into 2.5m steps, which means that the crane can be adjusted even more precisely to site conditions and, if necessary, to the awkward edges of buildings. The crane can now hoist 1,800kg at the jib head. Its maximum capacity is still 8,000kg and the maximum free-standing hook height of the flat-top crane remains at 71.4m

The crane can be supplied with the new 16 EC, 16 HC, 17 HC and 21 HC tower systems. At Paris it will be presented on the compact 16 EC system. This is a new addition to the Liebherr tower product portfolio and is available in two metre-tonne classes. The range comprises 16 EC 160 and 16 EC 240 towers; the first figure is the external mast dimensions, of 1.60m x 1.60m, and the second figure specifies the metre-tonne capacity. The crane is also supported on a new 20 EC cruciform base with external dimensions of 4.50m.

The crane on show in Paris will also feature the LiUP crane driver elevator. The LiUP is powered by a lithium-ion battery with an energy recovery system and is compatible with both the EC and the HC tower systems. The elevator can be installed on the inside of the tower.

The rails for the elevator are coordinated to the length of the tower sections, only require one-time installation and, if they are installed on the inside of the tower, do not have to be removed for dismantling and assembling the crane.

Rough and ready

At Intermat Liebherr will also be presenting the LRT 1090-2.1 from its new series of rough-terrain cranes. The main development focus here was on safety during use.

To this end the Liebherr LRT cranes feature an outrigger monitoring system as standard.

The support status—on tyres or outriggers—is detected automatically and saved to the crane controller. The attachment of the ballast to the turntable and the installation of the optional double folding jib, including its angle adjustment, are also recorded and monitored.

The VarioBase (variable support base) developed by Liebherr is standard on the LRT cranes. VarioBase allows each individual outrigger beam to be extended to optional lengths. The crane work is controlled by the load moment limiter within the LICCON controller, which calculates precisely the maximum load capacities for the current situation. This prevents accidents by human error during assembly and when hoisting loads.

VarioBase also provides greater flexibility on site. As a result of the increased lifting capacities when hoisting over the supports, the crane can hoist loads normally reserved for the next higher crane class

The LRT crane models were launched by Liebherr as the first mobile cranes which meet global safety standards and comply with all global regulations, such as the US standard ANSI B30.5, The European EN 13000, Australian Standards (AS) and the Russian GOST standard. Bypassing of safety equipment is prevented A six-speed power shift transmission and large 29.5 R25 tyres guarantee the required off-road capability for the crane. All-wheel and crab steering ensure easy handling and high manoeuvrability in constricted conditions.
