Crane companies Aertssen Kranen and Michielsens have been jointly contracted by Total Antwerp for lifting work during turnarounds and maintenance works on a five-year contract. The joint venture will be operated by a new company called AMI.

Over the next five years, Aertssen Kranen and Michielsens will carry out all lifting and rigging works at Total Refinery Antwerp, Total Olefins Antwerp and Total Polymers Antwerp sites.

In order to guarantee a unique service, the idea arose to join forces. “The AMI joint venture responds to Total's request to optimise hoisting and rigging works as much as possible. With this collaboration there is one single point of contact for Total platform,” said Tom Deckers, business unit manager at Aertssen Kranen.

"We also anticipate Total's request to work efficiently with equipment and employees." added Jack Hansoul, general manager at Michielsens. "The collaboration between Total platform and AMI is further integrated by working with a single on-site planning."

For this five-year contract, the joint venture will be able to call upon a modern fleet of mobile and crawler cranes as well as SPMTs. 35 employees will be employed on the Total platform on a daily basis.
