The joint venture between heavy lift specialist ALE and crane company Aertssen will work on the construction of a new petrochemical refinery in Belgium.

The project, which will be completed on behalf of Spanish EPC contractor Técnicas Reunidas, represents the first contract for the joint venture between ALE and Belgium-based Aertssen.

Called the Optara project, the development is part of the €1bn investment at Total's refining and petrochemical complex in Antwerp, and covers the construction of one new unit, and the conversion of a second unit.

The joint venture will use 80 axle lines of SPMTs to transport modular components each 23m high and weighing more than 1,000t. The first modules were transported in October.
