Crane Institute Certification (CIC) will co-host the Crane Operator Skills Championship, or Crane Rodeo, at next year's ConExpo in Las Vegas. The Championship in Las Vegas is the culmination of eight regional competitions that took place in 2013 across the US and in Canada, and a Las Vegas qualifier open to registered ConExpo attendees.

The final will feature 18 crane operators will compete in the Championship to take place March 6-7 at the show.

Operators will compete on a 265USt Liebherr LTM 1220-5.2 all terrain crane, featuring a 197ft main boom. The Champion will receive $2,000 cash, a hand tooled Western belt buckle, leather bomber jacket, as well as a die-cast crane model. Operators attending ConExpo have been encouraged to pre-register in advance in order to assure a spot in the qualifier competition on March 4-5.

CIC also announced that it was introducing a new certification for Lift Directors at ConExpo. The safety organisation said that their designation of lift director was increasingly being identified in various standards, including ASME B30, OSHA 1926.1400, and the soon to be finalised ASME P30.
