Danis Building Construction used a Grove 7550 mega wing crane to construct a 170ft skywalk that connects Kettering Health Network’s existing main campus hospital to the new 120,000sq ft five-story Cancer Center across Southern Boulevard in Kettering.

"This machine was delivered to the job site by 14 semi-trucks and assembly took over 16 hours. It's one of only three of its kind east of the Mississippi," said Troy Erbes, vice president of business development for Danis Building Construction

The Grove 7550 Mega Wing crane includes a 300ft boom, a 190ft linear reach and a total assembled weight of 645,000 pounds.

The skywalk, which this crane lifted into place, includes trusses measuring roughly 170ft when assembled, with each section weighing 30,000 pounds. Total assembly of the trusses took over eight hours.

Erbes added: "No question that we needed a crane designed specifically for this type of job, as most traditional construction cranes could not accommodate this load. Needless to say, it's been a huge hit with our team."
