German crane company Walsemann & Sommer has added a 400t, six-axle GMK6400 to its fleet, the company’s first Grove all terrain crane.

The company purchased the crane for its flexibility and compact design, said general manager Björn Sommer. Due to the crane's design satisfying road permit laws across Europe, the GMK6400 can be driven at any time of day and to almost any jobsite.

Often used for wind turbine assembly and maintenance, the crane features a 60m main boom, 79m luffing jib, a single engine and MegaDrive hydrostatic drive.

"We are extremely impressed with the GMK6400 and its short rigging time and strong lifting capacity from the main boom and luffing jib, especially with the MegaWingLift capacity-enhancing attachment," said Sommer. "And the price-performance ratio is excellent compared with others."

Andreas Meyer and Björn Sommer at Walsemann & Sommer welcome the new Grove GMK6400 to their company's fleet with Manitowoc’s Hans-Peter Schidor.
