Dutch crane rental company Cluysenaar Kraanverhuur has taken delivery of Europe’s first Sumitomo Heavy Industries Construction Cranes (HSC) 55t SCX550-3 crawler crane with EU Stage V engine.

The crane was supplied by HSC’s distributor Hitachi Construction Machinery Netherlands (HCME).

Cluysenaar Kraanverhuur has been in the rental business since 1979 and operates a fleet of seven crawler cranes including the new HSC SCX550-3.

The company said: “The crane seems indestructible and will last for years without any problems. That makes these machines very popular and exactly the equipment that is required in the market. On the other hand, clients increasingly place high demands on the machines that are used. Cranes must also meet the strictest emission standards, so that construction projects can continue and the necessary building permits are granted when it can be demonstrated that sustainable equipment is actually used.”

The first deployment of the new 55-tonne crawler crane is in Lelystad, where the SCX550-3 has to lift precast concrete elements for new-build houses. The heaviest parts weigh almost 6t. The crane is used here with a 37m boom.

Cluysenaar ordered the HSC with full 49m main boom, although the company can also use its existing 6m jib. Customers can opt for a maximum 15m jib mounted at a fixed angle of 10° or 30°. The breech itself measures 5m and the head of the boom is 5m long.

It is powered by a Stage V Hino J05E-VB diesel engine delivering a maximum power of 138kW (188hp) at 2,100 rpm. The Eco winches with a high lifting speed and the Auto-Idle / Auto-Stop function also contribute to the fuel efficiency.

The SCX550-3 has 18.6t of counterweight which measures 3.2m wide. The tail swing radius is very short at 3,850 mm making the crane ideal for working in tight locations.
