Hitachi Sumitomo has launched a new 55t crawler aimed at international markets, combining ease of use and maintenance with high performance.

The new crane, the SCX550E, lifts 55t at 3.7m. It can be configured with booms from 10m to 52.7m.

It isn't certified for use in the EU. Instead, it focuses on using 'time tested' components and simple hydraulic and electrical systems, aimed at making the crane easy to maintain while still delivering high performance.

It features a simplified winch system with integrated reduction gear and free-fall function included as standard. Other standard features include anti-two block, secondary boom hoist limiting device, and automatic drum lock.

The crane builder says using proven simple hydraulic and electric circuitry, with a centralised layout for filters, fuses and relays, will minimise downtime and ensure low-maintenance.

While aimed at markets with a preference for simple design, the crane still brings some features that will make it appealing to operators. The operator's cabin is 1040mm wide and fitted with large windows. It is fully air conditioned, with a heater and cooler box.
