UK car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover has bought a specialist mobile Palfinger crane unit to use at its new £500m engine factory.

Land Rover intermediary Sibco placed an order with Palfinger distributor TH White for a Kran-Mobil low-slung chassis, built by Zunhammer, mounted with a Palfinger PK 34002-SH crane with 1.42 lift capacity and a reach of 16.7m.

The highly manoeuvrable mobile unit combines the features of a high lift capacity, long reach and ability to work under low roof heights (down to just 2.7m).

TH White said the specialised job specification would normally have required a truck crane, but the manoeuvrability and height restrictions meant this was not possible.

The Kran-Mobil has all-wheel steering in five modes, including on-the-spot rotation with a minimum turning circle of 3350mm.
