Dutch company FibreMax has produced what it says are the longest synthetic pendants for the crane industry, for use in a luffing-jib tower crane.

The pendants are more than 55m long, and have a breaking strength of 680t. Each pendant, including end terminations, weighs 395kg. Also included in the order, which was delivered in December 2014, were 63m-long pendants with a breaking strength of 390t, which weigh 250kg each.

"The reason for these long pendants is simply that there hasn't been a demand from customers for such long pendants before," said Wilco van Zonneveld, business development manager at FibreMax. "The longest that we produced so far was 44m. All these long pendants are used on luffing-jib tower cranes.

"We can produce pendants up to 150m, all on customer requirements."
