Manitowoc has promoted its former director of engineering for mobile cranes, Jens Ennen, to the position of senior vice president of engineering and innovation for Manitowoc Cranes.

Reporting directly to Manitowoc Cranes president and general manager Eric Etchart, Ennen will be based at Manitowoc’s German facility in Wilhelmshaven until this summer, when he will move to the firm’s Shady Grove facility in Pennsylvania, USA.

Tasked with developing a culture of innovation within new product development, Ennen will liaise with the company’s global marketing personnel, along with regional engineering vice presidents, to improve current engineering best practice.

Commenting on the appointment, Etchart said: “In addition to Jens’ advanced degrees in engineering, he has a strong focus on execution, excellent product knowledge and a good relationship with our customers,” he said. “He is accomplished at driving product design initiatives and making a strong link with operations, quality and purchasing functions.”

Ennen first cut his teeth in the crane industry at German manufacturer Krupp, before Grove purchased it in 1995. For the 18 years since then he has worked in a variety of engineering and engineering management roles at Grove, before and after its acquisition by Manitowoc.
