UK contractor Murphy Group has purchased two new crawler cranes from Kobelco Cranes Europe.

The CKE1350G and CKE900G cranes were delivered to Murphy's depot at Hemel Hempstead, and are now working at Thames Water Authority's £177m upgrade project at the Deephams Sewage Works at Edmonton. Work at the project, overseen by the AECOM Murphy Kier joint venture, began in early 2014.

John Coll, divisional director of Procurement and Plant & Transport at Murphy Group, said: "For a job of this kind, reach was critical, so the CKE1350G is fitted with a fly-jib and is moving anything from old sewage chambers to helping dismantle the shafts on site."

The CKE1350G, which has a maximum crane boom of 76.2m and a luffing boom of 47.9m, has a lifting capacity of 135t at 4.5m. Lifting capacity with the luffing jib is 36t at 12m.

The CKE990G has a maximum boom length of 61m and a lifting capacity of 100t at 3.5m, with a maximum fixed jib combination of 51.8m and 18.3m.

The CKE1350G and CKE900G join three other G Series Kobelco crawlers operated by Murphy at the Deephams Sewage Works project, including two CKE1100G cranes configured with fly-jibs, and a BM800G.

Two new Kobelco crawler cranes recently bought by Murphy Group are now at work at a UK sewage works upgrade project.
