US crane company Ness and Campbell supplied two cranes to manoeuvre a 4,000ft-long, 3ft-diameter steel water pipe under a river.

The project, which also involved four barge cranes supplied by American Crane, took place in Oregon during December.

Ness and Campbell supplied a 100t Link-Belt HTC-86100 truck crane, and a 110t Link-Belt 80110 rough terrain crane.

Each crane held 38,000lbs at different elevations, while the pipe was pulled through by a drill rig on the other side of the river which was also pooling and boring the earth. Operations stopped after every 35ft of progress to pull out a piece of the drill.

The project, called the Lake Oswego Tigard Water Partnership Schedules 1, 2 & 3 Mapleton Project, was overseen by contractor Frank Coluccio Construction Company.

In the pipeline: a 4,000ft-long steel water pipe was positioned under a river using two Link-Belt mobile cranes and four barge cranes.
