Special transports manufacturer Broshuis has developed a new transport for the Vestas 112 wind turbine blade, in partnership with Vestas.

The solution was developed in answer to existing methods using pallets or wooden blocks causing too much damage to the blades during transport.

Broshuis developed new casings for the V112 blade that are attached after fabrication at the factory. The blade is then fitted to the trailer using a universal joint that allows some freedom of movement, independent of the trailer, to reduce stress before moving it to site.

The trailer’s mainbeam section has been specifically designed with a sliding system which accommodates the positioning of the casings, while still being able to retract or extend up to 65m, allowing greater manoeuvrability.

Broshuis also provide the option of a detachable hydraulic neck that can be attached to the trailer to extend its total length beyond 65m.

Again focusing on manoeuvrability, the minimum load floor height of 1.03m can be increased by means of a hydraulic support fitted in the gooseneck, allowing cars and other obstacles to be traversed.
