Skyline, an Uperio group company, launched the Opti self-erecting tower crane at the Vertikal Days trade show in Peterborough, UK

The 1.5 tonne capacity self-erector has been designed to be easy to handle and Skyline, an Uperio group company, hopes it will open up the crane market to first-time crane buyers due to its versatility and ease of transport and setup. In particular, the company believes the crane will appeal to construction companies, roofers, carpenters and other contractors who need a simple and flexible crane.

With a weight of 3.5 tonnes the Opti can be towed to jobsites using a standard pickup truck. When folded, the crane is 2.4 metres wide, 2.8 metres high, and 9.5 metres long.

At the jobsite erection can be carried out by one person in around 30 minutes, the company says.

It can then be used in four different configurations (Light, Maxi, Maxi+, and Intermediate), which include luffing jib or horizontal jib/trolley options, to suit a range of applications. A maximum load of 360 kg at the jib’s tip is possible, depending on the configuration. The jib has a maximum length of 14.5 metres

Small footprint and swing radius

The Opti crane has a footprint of 4.1 x 4.1 m (or 3.3 x 4.7 m in Intermediate configuration) and a slewing radius of 2.2 m x 2.25 m x 2.3 m so that it can fit into tight spots.

A hook height of up to 19.5 metres is possible with the luffing jib. The crane is powered by a standard single-phase 230V/20A power source.

“Feedback from our customer base suggested that many contractors, especially roofing companies and carpenters would like to own a crane but have always found that the assembly process was too time-consuming, and installing the required infrastructure would just add to the cost of the crane,” explains David Janssen, product manager for the Opti crane. “It was with these contractors in mind that we designed the Opti crane: we wanted to offer them the opportunity to own a crane that they can tow with a standard pick-up truck, without having to worry about transportation, and whose simple handling does not detract from the performance they need.”
