The first Potain MCT 205 topless tower crane to be used in the Philippines has been installed at an apartment development in Manila.

The crane, manufactured at Manitowoc's facilty at Zhangjiagang, China, is being used at the Botanika Nature Residences development in the Alabang business district of Muntiniupa City.

Datem Inc., the main contractor on the project, purchased the MCT 205 for handling materials including formwork, rebar and precast concrete sections, each weighing up to 5t, to heights of up to 59m. The crane is also being used to pour concrete.

Arnold De Asis, vice president of operations at Datem, said: "With development of residential property on the rise in the Philippines, we need equipment that is quick to erect, as well as strong and reliable. We decided to purchase the Potain MCT 205 because it offers the latest technology and its topless design makes it suitable for many job sites."

Pushing the envelope: a Potain MCT 205 was used at a residential development in Manila, the first time the crane has been used in the Philippines.
