Two 16t Potain MC 310 K16 hammerheads are being used for the construction of a 430m (1,410ft) long bridge in Iquitos, in northern Peru.

The city’s urban centre, with a population of almost half a million people, is currently only accessible by river and air. The construction of the bridge will allow people to access the city via road, through a connection with nearby roadways.

The project includes the construction of 1,504m of elevated access viaducts, which will go over the Nanay River, a tributary of the Amazon River.

ETAC, Potain’s dealer for Peru since 2009, provided the two MC 310 K16 tower cranes for the construction of the main section of the cable-stayed bridge.

The cranes were assembled at the jobsite in mid-2018 and have been assisting with the lifting of 6000t (6,600USt) of reinforced steel and 5800t of structural steel, as well as the moving of more than 35,000m3 of concrete. They are expected to remain on site until mid-2021.

“The Nanay Bridge will become the longest and most modern bridge in Peru, and we’re proud to supply such an important project with some of the world’s most trusted tower cranes,” said Carlos Villacorta Canessa, general manager at ETAC.
