A LiuGong TC250-4 crane is currently en route to Antarctica to assist the operations of a Chinese research facility.

The crane departed on a ship from Shanghai at the beginning of November and is due to arrive at Zhongshan station in January, where another LiuGong TC250-4 has been in operation for around a year.

The new crane will perform similar work to the existing TC250-4, including loading and unloading cargo, truck hoisting, and house repair work.

The purchase was made following a strategic co-operation agreement established in 2012 between LiuGong and the Polar Research Centre of China, and after the first crane was proved to operate reliably in the sub-zero Antarctic environment.

LiuGong has also supplied a CLG920D excavator and a CLG856 wheel loader to the centre.

Pole star: a second LiuGong TC250-4 crane is set to join a first at the Polar Research Centre of China in Antarctica.
