Two Sennebogen crawler cranes were used to position precast concrete members, each weighing up to 50t, at the construction of a Mercedes-Benz engine and component plant.

Civil engineering company Glass Construction Group built the new plant for Daimler, parent company of the Mercedes-Benz Cars division, at Untertürkheim. The plant will produce engines, axles and other components for the car division.

The plant includes a 4,500sq m production hall, constructed from precast concrete. To position the concrete members, Glass Construction Group hired two Sennebogen cranes, with capacities of 180t and 300t, from Wiesbauer.

"The two Sennebogen crawler cranes played an important role," said Michael Stehr, site manager at Glass. "The simple and space-saving assembly, as well as the ability to travel with load, ultimately tipped the scales in favor of choosing the Sennebogen cranes.

While the 7700 worked in the pit, its 'little brother' helped from outside, as well as with assembling and disassembling the crane in the small pit."

Limited space at the construction site of the Mercedes-Benz engine manufacturing plant in Germany inspired the choice of two Sennebogen crawler cranes.
