Heavy lift specialist Mammoet has installed a crane simulator at its training centre in the Netherlands.

The PTC simulator is a purpose-built system for training operators to handle the PTC 140/200 DS, Mammoet's largest crane. The machine is designed to be an exact replica of the crane's operating system, including the operator cabin, high-definition screens, server rack, crane control cabinet and instruction station.

A range of lifts can be practised on the simulator, enabling Mammoet to plan operations ahead of the project taking place -- including showing the entire crew what the job involves, identifying potential hazards, and calculating how long the lift will take.

Using the simulator also improves safety standards, as it enables the company to prepare operators for unusual events and situations which may occur during lifts.

The PTC crane simulator at Mammoet enables operators to be trained and to practice specific jobs before the operation begins.
