ALE has installed a 1,650t ton, 140m-long bridge in Sweden, using a combination of SPMTs, barges and jacking equipment.

The curved arch Nacka Bridge was installed in four phases by ALE. The bridge was built on a narrow construction site on the side of a hill, requiring turntables on top of SPMTs to manoeuvre the bridge through limited space. 32 axle lines of SPMT were used at the back of the bridge, with a further 48 lines in the centre to move the bridge 100m.

A barge was then positioned under the bridge arch using winches, supporting 960t of the weight of the structure. ALE ballasted and extended the jacks on top of the barge to transfer the weight from the front SPMTs to the barge, which then moved to the far side of the river to create space for a second barge to be positioned under the bridge.

The first barge was then removed, with 1,300t of bridge weight on the second barge. The bridge was moved into position using the SPMTs at the rear, before the 25m-high barge was jacked down 3.5m using strandjacks to set the bridge on the abutment.

Swede success: ALE used SPMTs, barges and jacking equipment to fit a 140m-long bridge over a river in Sweden.
