The Redevelopment of a Grade 2* Listed Royal Shakespeare Theatre (RST) and the Swan Theatre which lie on the banks of the River Avon at the heart of the RSC's Estate in Stratford Upon Avon. Working largely with the shell of the existing building, the proposals include replacing the existing RST auditorium, improving the scale and clarity of Foyer spaces and re-planning back of accommodation. Outside the building the proposals will provide better quality public spaces facing both the River and the Town. A new Public square and circulation tower will signal the changes and provide a link to the town of Stratford.

A construction management procurement route has been adopted procuring the works through Trade packages to deliver the above brief.

Provide two saddle back tower cranes and associated grillages including erection, maintenance and dismantlement of cranes and all associated hire. Provide two crane drivers for duration of hire. The trade contractor shall appoint a person in accordance with section 3.2 of part 1 of BS 7121 who will be known as the site "Crane Coordinator" and will be additional to the crane operators. The Trade Contractor shall allow for all testing and commissioning and maintaining safety documentation for the cranes and associated equipment in accordance with the LOLER Regulations 1998. The Trade Contractor shall supply and maintain all necessary radio communication for crane operators and site "Crane Coordinator" for the duration of the contract. The Trade Contractor shall ensure that for each crane all necessary lifting gear (chains / strops / brothers etc) is to be supplied including an inspection cage, emergency stretcher and lockable steel box for the lifting gear.

Each crane shall be fitted with an anemometer with remote repeaters at the base of the crane.Lightning protection will be by means of an earth-rod connection to the crane masts with complete continuity. The Trade Contractor shall provide sufficient flood lighting to give even distribution of light over the site including all wiring and connecting via an isolator. Typical lighting as a minimum will be 4 No floodlights 1 500 W fitted on each side of the mast. The flood lights are to be located initially mid point of the masts and to be relocated at the top of the mast as and when directed by the Construction Manager.

The Trade Contractor shall consider and allow for clash detection and prevention (computerised zone control system) as may be considered necessary. This must be fully discussed with the construction manager where applicable. The Trade Contractor shall provide provision for a 4m x 1m illuminated sign box on the counter jib including all electrical requirements with a compatible sign to be be agreed. The Trade Contractor is responsible for all breakdowns that may occur and will replace any parts at their own costs. All planned maintenance works to be carried out in "out of hours" periods.The Trade Contractor is fully responsible for covering for sickness and for holiday relief for the crane drivers and site crane coordinator, therefore maintaining continuity at all times on site.
