AdBlue solutions provider Yara has recently launched OptiSpray, a product to prevent deposit formation in the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems.

Many road transport vehicles, agricultural and construction machinery—including cranes—are now equipped with SCR in order to be fully compliant with emission regulations. “The SCR catalyst needs AdBlue or other urea solutions to function,” the company said.

Deposit formation can occur in SCR systems when engines are idling, running at low average speed and/or with a high number of stop/starts. Yara explained that a deposit build-up may in turn lead to blockages and ultimately engine failure.

“Based on 32.5% urea solution, OptiSpray conforms to the purity specifications of the ISO 22241 standard for AdBlue,” said the company. It added that the product’s low concentration (<0.05%) of surfactant additive, will help prevent deposit build-up. “This reduces maintenance costs and minimises downtime, resulting in more cost effective and efficient operations.”

Yara said the product has been tested in various conditions and at low exhaust temperatures, demonstrating a reduction in deposit formation in all tests, and all field test results demonstrated problem free operation.
