Amended EN 13000 in 2010

FEM said the amended standard will be distributed between June and November this year for enquiries, with publication of the modified standard expected between 18 February and 18 May, 2010. FEM warned that when the amended standard comes into force, it will do so with immediate effect without a transition period.

FEM said many European manufacturers within its membership intend to implement the changes from the start of 2010, in preparation for the publication date.

Important changes to EN 13000 include the placement of the RCL override key, which must be located outside the operator cab; the ability to overcome deadlocks with a push button in the operator cab, releasing further load capacity but at a reduced operational speed; a reduction in the speed of movements when the override key is activated; and all override key activations to be recorded by a data logger.

“If a mobile crane manufacturer is still neglecting the ongoing development of EN 13000 despite the information already given by FEM, it is now high time to wake up and to adapt the RCL to the foreseeable changes,” FEM said.
