In the wake of the Canary Wharf tower crane collapse three years ago, the UK government has agreed to fund a major research project into tower crane stability to produce best practice guidance.

Organisations that have already signed as project partners, contributing to the £150,000 project costs, include: HSE, CITB, CPA, Safety Assessment Federation, HTC Plant Ltd, Select Plant Hire, Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd, Carillion, TWC Consulting and Taylor Woodrow.

Further details of the CIRIA-led project will be outlined at Crane Safety 2003, an international conference being held in London, 16-17 June. For further details on the conference, contact Julie Rossiter tel 0208 269 7835 or jrossiter@wilmington.co.uk
