ALE’s 7MW test load out

18 March 2014

ALE has completed the off-loading of eight components for a prototype wind turbine for an offshore wind project in Fife, Scotland.

The lifting firm said that the 7MW prototype turbine was one of the largest in the world with a nacelle height of 110m and a blade tip height of 196m from sea level.

As the part of the project ALE offloaded the wind turbine components using a Gottwald AK912-1 crane and several other assist cranes. Other items the firm lifted included two tower sections weighing 350t each one nacelle weighing 525t, three 85m 80t long blades each, one 480t jacket and one T-piece weighing 475t.

The components were lifted from the ship to SPMTs for site transportation to temporary steelwork by the SPMTs inbuilt hydraulic system.
