Amco Veba knuckleboom mounts in drilling platform

11 February 2009

National Oilwell Varco in Canada has kitted out a new design of temporary drilling platform with an Amco Veba 946F loader crane.

Although the drilling platform automatically loads new sections of drill stem, it still needs the Amco Veba crane to lift odd-sized tools and equipment up to the loading deck, mounted on the upper storey of the platform. The crane was supplied by Danco Equipment, of Edmonton, Alberta, which also sourced a hydraulic powered pipe grab for the job from another supplier. Crane and grab are controlled by Hetronic radio remote control. The controller feeds back the working pressure of the grab circuit from any position. The crane also helps assemble and disassemble the rig.
