(SPONSORED): INNOVATION AND HEALTH & SAFETY LIFTS HEWDEN ABOVE THE REST

25 October 2016

It’s been a big year for national equipment and crane hire firm, Hewden. New faces, new products and a new approach has strengthened the company’s on-site solutions offering and helped secure a number of high profile contract wins in the process.

Underpinning its success has been the company’s commitment to innovation and health and safety, which CEO, Adrian Murphy believes is “critical to building a long-term sustainable business.”

Hewden hasn’t been paying lip service either. The firm has invested big, kicking off the year with an £11.5m investment for 21 Tadano cranes, extended Hewden’s lifting capacity up to 220 tonnes.

“We haven’t just bought products for the sake of it,” explains Murphy. “Our purchasing strategy is around introducing innovative solutions that improve both efficiency and health and safety. A big question we ask ourselves is, how will this change the industry?”

Crane Innovation

Hewden’s cranes are packed full of innovation too. The 220 tonne cranes feature a 21m long fully-hydraulic telescopic luffing jib (HTLJ) that can self assemble and provide the flexibility needed for a range of jobs. The first of its kind in the UK, it enables objects to be lifted beyond building edges and be telescoped safely into building structures with a ceiling, previously not possible with rigid boom extensions.

“We’ve been involved in the commercial crane hire sector for more than 40 years but this latest venture is a significant development from our traditional fleet. We are going bigger and better, and doing more and more complex lifts,” said Murphy.

Hewden is known for its safety, innovation and expertise. As a result, a big part of the business is around providing CPA and Contract Lifts.

A lot of customers turn to Hewden to manage the lift from start to finish. This can lead to reduced costs for the customer, but also peace of mind that health and safety compliance is of the highest standard.

Interlift Expansion

It’s not just cranes where Hewden is flourishing, but also what happens ‘under the hook’ too.  The firm recently acquired leading lifting and materials handling specialist, Interlift and is already expanding its UK presence, as part of proposed nationwide rollout

The move will see Interlift, which currently has depots in Middlesbrough, Hull and Glasgow, extend its offering to Hewden sites in Grangemouth, Newcastle, Immingham, Leeds, Bedford, Manchester and Wokingham

Interlift provides a range of lifting products and accessories including; hoists, lifting straps, shackles, beam and plate clamps, height safety and man riding equipment. Kevin Chalmers, Operations Director at Interlift, believes the rollout is great news for customers.

“In layman terms, Interlift’s business is really about what happens under the hook,” said Chalmers. "Hewden has invested significantly on its cranes business and our range of products support and compliment that investment perfectly.

“We’ve seen unprecedented interest in Interlift products, so we’re keen to expand the network. Our aim, like with all Hewden assets, is to have the most comprehensive and innovative range of products available to the industry. We will be investing significantly over the next 12 months to make that happen,” added Chalmers.
