Sotiris Kanaris looks at what different manufacturers of accessories, components and materials are going to exhibit at the event.

As mentioned in the tower cranes preview, Teufelberger has developed high-strength fiber rope soLITE in cooperation with Liebherr, which is now launched into series production. Apart from seeing soLITE on a tower crane at Liebherr’s stand, visitors can visit the stand of Teufelberger-Redaelli to learn more about this product.

In 2017, Teufelberger acquired Redaelli Tecna. At Bauma 2019, Teufelberger will present itself with Teufelberger-Redaelli, its brand for high-performance steel wire ropes.

One of the products presented will be the Evolution P9, initially designed for crawler cranes, it has now been advanced for use in drilling devices as well. Another product for the crane industry is the Evolution TK 27, which has been used for mobile and crawler cranes.

Lifting and rigging hardware Ropeblock will also have a stand at Bauma. The upcoming edition of Bauma will be extra special for the company, as 2019 is the year of its 25th anniversary. Apart from the birthday celebration, Ropeblock will showcase some of its products including a crane block fitted with all kinds of Smart Engineered Ropeblock components, as well as different types of Ropeblock sheaves and sockets. Visitors will also have the chance to learn about the Super Reeve Connector Swivel Socket, a socket with an integrated swivel that Ropeblock developed in response to market requests.

With new French regulations demanding operator elevators on tower cranes, their manufacturers are exhibiting new or proven technologies in the field.

GEDA has developed with Manitowoc a new internal elevator for Potain tower cranes, Cab- IN, which will be displayed at Manitowoc’s stand. It allows for fast travel to and from the crane cab, while retaining regular mast ladder access.

At GEDA’s stand will be the GEDA 2PK, a rack and pinion hoist with aluminium ladder segments.

Its flexible system allows for the hoist to be installed to any kind of crane up to a standard height of 150m (higher heights on request). This makes it a safe and quick transport system for crane operators and maintenance personnel and materials.

At the trade fair, crane industry professionals will have the opportunity to discuss with Alimak’s technical staff about their well-established TCL elevator, which can be installed on the majority of existing tower crane brands and systems.

The Alimak TCL offers simple external installation, the ability to retrofit with little to no mast modifications, and reliable access for crane operators, technicians and maintenance personnel.

It is capable of transporting a maximum of two passengers (200 kg) at a time, and fully compliant with EN 81-43: Lifts for Cranes safety requirements.

A number of radio control manufacturers will also be exhibiting at the event. Italian radio remote control manufacturer IMET will present the THOR2 radio remote control, which is available with a 3.5in colour graphic display. The high brightness (1.000 cd/m2) and the 65.000 reproducible colors, allow for a clear display, even in environments with intense sunlight.

Another new IMET product that will be showcased at Bauma is the new RAY pushbutton transmitter.

This model is powered by lithium polymer battery that guarantees over 25 hours of battery life. RAY allows a wide range of possibilities for the command layout with up to 18 buttons. Imet says this product has been designed for a wide range of mobile sector applications.

Autec will showcase Compact, a new compact transmitting unit for cranes and mobile hydraulic machines. It is available both with digital commands and a configurable dual-band radio with automatic search of free channel in FHSS mode (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) at 870/915 MHz, but is also available with proportional controls and with FSA technology at 870 / 915 MHz.

On display by Autec will also be the Link transmitter unit, specifically designed for the wireless control of hydraulic cranes. Four to six linear units can be mounted on this lightweight (1.75kg) unit. Autec will also showcase Curve, a larger version of Link with a more curved shape, which can accommodate up to eight linear joysticks and up to three multi-axis joysticks.

HBC-radiomatic will unveil a new generation of their spectrum controller series at bauma 2019.

The renovated spectrum versions will come with completely updated radio technology and numerous new features and functions for enhanced safety and operating comfort, including high-performing colour displays, additional category 3 PL d safe commands according to EN ISO 13849-1:2015 and new batteries with significantly increased operating times.

Furthermore, HBC-radiomatic will showcase newly-developed expansions of their live camera assistance radiomatic photon including a two-camera switch and a mobile solution with portable cameras. A new version of the patrol handheld transmitter series for small hydraulic applications and other products will also be exhibited.

Stoneridge-Orlaco will present its MirrorEye, an integrated system of cameras and digital displays as an alternative to conventional rear-vision mirrors, to the off-road market. It will also showcase a new 7in HLED monitor to complement the current real time digital (GMSL) product range, suited for rearview solutions in wheel loaders, excavators, mobile cranes and other mobile equipment.

Stoneridge-Orlaco will also introduce new Ethernet products: the EMOS BroadR-Reach Ethernet camera (100BASE-T1), an Ethernet ELED monitor has a full front glass coating (available in 7in and 10in) and the Ethernet Wireless Sender Receiver (WiSR).

At AMCS technologies’ stand industry professionals will find its flagship product DCS 60 (Driving Control System) and will learn about the upcoming anti-collision and zoning system DCS 61-S (Driving Control System Safety). This new device will offer new features, in addition to the three essential functions (anti-collision, zoning and display/data logger).

AMCS technologies will preview its own telematics called IoT Lifting. The DCS 61-S anti-collision systems can be equipped with a SIM card that can be used to collect precise data on each crane on a web portal and generate personalized statistics for each job site and companies. The company will unveil the SUP BIM, its construction site supervisor in BIM.

CM Labs Simulations, developer of Vortex training simulators, will be releasing a host of new training technologies.

The company will be launching its new Augmented Reality (AR) application, which makes it possible for instructors to bring a virtual mobile crane right into the classroom, where trainees can learn the fundamentals of machine inspection.

Two training simulators will also be on display at CM Labs’ booth: the immersive Vortex Advantage and the desktop Vortex Edge Plus. Both simulators can run CM Labs’ full catalogue of lifting and earthmoving training packs, including mobile crane, flat-top tower crane, luffing tower crane, crawler crane, and more.

Cummins will celebrate its 100th anniversary at the Bauma show. Visitors to its stand will see the company’s first engine known as the HVID, alongside the latest B6.7 2019 Stage V engine. The full Stage V line up can be used to power cranes – from the F3.8 (75 – 129 kW) to X15 (450 – 675hp). Also featured at Bauma will be the Stage V F3.8 power unit.

Another engine that interests the crane industry is the 2019 Stage V, which the manufacturer says is the first European emissions step which impacts engines above 560kW (750hp). At Bauma, Cummins will debut the QSK60 Stage V engine which is available from 1398-2125 kW (1875-2850 hp).

ME Mobile Electronik will show its EHLA Plus auxiliary steering system. The company already supplies this system for many mobile cranes with complex steering systems, but is at Bauma promoting the system for more simple equipment. The company says EHLA Plus offers many steering modes to manoeuvre the vehicle in different situations, such as all-wheel steering, crab steering or manual steering of the rear axle. Automatic rear swingout suppression prevents the rear of the vehicle from swinging out when manoeuvring by means of the rear axle turning later than the front axle. This, ME says, cannot be achieved with a purely hydraulic steering system.

Crane manufacturers are using high performance steel for the booms and the steel manufacturers will be at Bauma showcasing their products.

Swedish steel manufacturer SSAB will present the Strenx 1100 Plus, its new high-strength structural steel, which SSAB says has unique weld properties.

Different SSAB Strenx products are already being used by crane manufacturers. The manufacturer says that the Strenx 1100 Plus is perfect for making lifting equipment that is stronger, reach higher and can take heavier loads.

In the same grade category, SSAB has the Strenx 1100, but there are clear differences between the two. The Strenx 1100 has a yield strength of 946 Rp0.2 and tensile strength of 1050Rm, while the Plus version’s figures are 1155 Rp0.2 and 1229Rm respectively. It is very flat and comes with a 3mm/m flatness guarantee.

NLMK Europe—Plate will be exhibiting its high yield strength steels used by a number of crane manufacturers. By combining thin steel plates with high mechanical performance, NLMK Europe—Plate has introduced the Quend 960 and Quend 1100 to the market. Quend is produced with tight thickness tolerances and a surface finish similar to that of unfolded coil sheets. NLMK is able to provide plates with flatness greater than the highest industry standards (beyond the S-Class of EN 10029). Quend 960 is available with thicknesses ranging 4-30mm, and Quend 1100 from 4 to 12mm.
