Martina Moritsch, daughter of Comedil founder Ferruccio Moritsch, has announced that she will be stepping down as the vice president and managing director of Terex Tower Cranes. Part of the family who founded the Terex legacy brand Comedil more than 50 years ago, Moritsch said she felt the time was right to make a change. Marco Gentilini has been appointed in the new role vice president and general manager, Terex Tower Cranes and Business Integration.

Comedil was founded in 1962 by Ferruccio Moritsch, who was well known in the industry for the development of many new tower cranes and innovation. This included the launch of the first hammerhead tower crane in 1965, the first telescopic self-erecting tower crane in 1968, and the first luffing boom tower crane in 1988, as well as the first extra large 40t capacity flat top tower crane in 2005. The business was acquired by Terex Corporation and became part of Terex Cranes in 1999.

Following the acquisition Ferruccio Moritsch set up a new company focused on crane design, called Recom in 2004. This firm was purchased by the American manufacturer in 2012. In August of that year Terex also moved self-erector production from the historic home of Comedil in Fontanafredda, Italy, to Montceau-les-Mines, France.

Describing her feelings on leaving the company Martina Moritsch said: "It was an extremely difficult decision to leave a company that has been such a big part of my family and my life. However, with the tower crane market in recovery, I believe the time is right for me to step down so a seamless transition in leadership can be made to ensure the continued success of Terex Tower Cranes."

Terex said that Martina Moritsch's replacement Marco Gentilini would lead integration initiatives for Cranes and broaden his current role to include global leadership of the Tower Cranes business.

Describing this change of approach Tim Ford, president of Terex cranes said: "In recent months, Terex Cranes has successfully introduced our new regional structure to become easier to do business with and show one face to the customer. Marco is the right person at the right time to lead the global tower crane business, evaluate how to drive further integration between our tower and mobile crane business, and develop the appropriate integration strategy."
