Italian tower crane manufacturer FMGru has supplied four FM 2760 TLX flat tops to Indonesian industrial company PT Saipem for its Karimun Yard. There are already three units of the same model working there since 2014.

At the Saipem Karimun Yard, activities focus on the fabrication of jackets, topsides, modules and integration of topsides onto hulls.

The FM 2760 TLX has 61.5m jib, maximum capacity of 12t and tip load of 2.6t. At the yard, they have been erected to heights between 41.1m to 99.6m.

FMGru said all four cranes have been customised for this construction yard.

They are equipped with a base wagon designed to allow the movement of the cranes on rails and feature anti-collision devices as well as zoning systems. The also feature a panoramic rotating cabin with all control devices and 7in displays.

The expansion of the yard in association with several major renewable energy projects to be fulfilled created the need to increase the radius of the area covered by each machine.

The three FM 2760 TLX erected at lower heights, were integrated into the existing lifting ecosystem and helped speed up production. The crane with height of 99.6m was embedded within the structure of a 75m-high platform. “This combination allows the supply of materials up to the final quota in an effective, efficient and safe way,” said FMGru.

Jackets, the offshore wind turbine foundations, will be placed on the sides of the platform. The complexity of the work at height has been solved by this platform with a permanent scaffolding function, that makes safe access to the top of the jacket itself.
