UK-based ALE has introduced a new tractor unit for special transport convoys. The new truck follows other in-house innovations from the heavy lift and special transport specialist, such as the giant SK lifting device and Mega Jack modular gantry system.

Called the Trojan truck, the vehicle is designed for the heavy lift sector and is able to link multiple tractor units in a command and drone convoy, using its integrated CANbus system.

This synchronises the steering, braking, electrics, engine and transmissions on all units.

The truck has a design weight of 72,000kg and can pull a gross combination weight of 300t at a maximum gradient of 14%. Top geared road speed is 48mph.

Gary Butler, project manager at ALE and designer of the Trojan truck, said: "We wanted to replace our current fleet of trucks with a specification that improved on vehicle performance, capability and fuel efficiency but there was no other truck on the market that delivered this. We therefore designed our own based on our specific requirements."

The truck was built in-house by ALE and is the first of a fleet of six new trucks due to be build by the company. Four will be kept in the UK, with two set for the UAE.
