Dutch rental firm Heavy Lifting and Handling has completed work on the installation of a 250t cyclotron, a complex piece of medical equipment used for cancer treatment, at an academic hospital in Uppsala, Sweden.

An Enerpak 1100SBL gantry lifting system hoisted the two parts of the cyclotron over the building and down into a 7m deep bunker with 4m thick walls. Heavy Lifting and Handling said that lowering the device into the bunker was a challenge as the reach of the gantry system was also 7m and therefore required extreme precision. The building up of rails on a 7m height with a heavy modular lifting frame also presented difficulties.

The assembly of the gantry system took three days, whilst the lifting of the cyclotron took two, and demobilisation a further three days.
