Heavy lift company ALE has transported two 250t LPG storage tanks 600km across Iraq - representing the largest cargo to be moved that distance in the country, said the company.

The 50m-long tanks were moved from Umm Qasr Port to Badra Oil Field, on behalf of Samsung Engineering Company Limited (SECL).

ALE began preparing the project in June 2012 by surveying the route and highlighting potential challenges such as passing over 11 bridges.

The move took place in May 2015, with ALE using three prime movers and two sets of 24 axle lines of conventional trailers.

Alberto Pittaluga, ALE's country manager for Iraq, said: "The successful execution of these deliveries over such a long distance is the consequence of the early engagement with the final destination. The team worked hard to navigate this challenging route, removing obstacles, constructing bypasses and engineering a trailer configuration to negotiate the multiple bridges.

"The client was pleased with the execution and an additional eight units have to be transported in October 2015."

Long time in the pipeline: ALE started planning the project to move LPG storage tanks across Iraq in June 2012, before completing the move this year.
