Prangl has supplied a range of cranes for a wind farm construction project in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

The wind farm will consist of ten wind turbines, each with a hub height of 149m and a rotor diameter of 115m. The nominal output for such an installation is 3MW, capable of supplying more than 16,000 households with green energy each year.

Prangl is represented on site by two large crane teams, who are responsible for the proper installation of the wind turbines. One 600t and one 650t crawler crane are deployed. Each team is supported by their own 200t auxiliary crane and 6t telescopic crane. An 80t telescopic crawler crane also had to be used on a few of the turbines.

“For this application, a conventional telescopic crane would have run up against the limit of its capacity,” the company said.

Two steel sections weighing up to 55t have to be lifted for each turbine. The heaviest components are the two nacelles, which weigh up to 64t each, and the two hubs, which weigh up to 65t each.
