Tadano Group’s sales revenue in the first half of its fiscal year (April to September) stood at ¥82.9bn ($731m), down 8.8% year-on-year.

The company saw its sales revenue decline both in and outside Japan. Net sales in Japan fell from ¥49.7bn in the first half of FY2016 to ¥47.8bn, while outside Japan net sales revenue was down 15% at ¥34.9bn.

The decline in sales reflected a drop in mobile crane sales, as all the other product segments experienced higher volumes.

Mobile crane sales revenue fell by 20.4% year-on-year to ¥45.7bn, with sales outside Japan generating ¥27.5bn. Overall, Tadano’s mobile crane sales fell from 1,172 units to 854, capturing 29.7% of the global market.

Tadano truck loader crane sales revenue rose by 5.7% to ¥10.1bn.  Sales outside Japan of truck loader units generated ¥830m. In Japan the manufacturer holds a 49.7% market share.

Aerial work platforms was another product category in which Tadano witnessed sales growth, with revenue rising by 11.9% year-on-year to ¥12.1bn.

Tadano Group’s operating income was ¥8.5bn, ¥1.5bn lower than the same period of the previous year.
