The second ever Official British Crane Truck Operator Challenge, organised by UK commercial vehicle dealer Mac’s Truck Group, will take place on 5 September at the company’s headquarters in Huddersfield, England.
The competition is open to crane truck operators across the UK to demonstrate their abilities during a series of technical challenges aimed at testing precision, control, and composure.
The contest follows the launch of the inaugural event in 2025, which organisers say drew strong interest from industry professionals.
For this year’s challenge, new tasks and a larger prize fund have been introduced, including £1,500 ($2,023) for the winner, £1,000 for second place, and £500 for third. The overall prize pot totals £3,000.
The company says the event offers an opportunity for operators to display their skills in realistic scenarios, while also highlighting the company’s preferred FASSI crane models.
The challenge programme has been revised based on participant feedback, with the intention of mirroring the concentration and operational control required in daily crane work.
Mac’s Truck Group sales director Alex McDade said: “Last year’s event exceeded our expectations, with the hotly fought contest demonstrating just how much talent is required to be a crane truck operator.
“Most competitors perform this highly skilled work every day, so we created the Operator Challenge as a way for them to showcase their abilities, learn from their peers, and of course, try the latest FASSI equipment.
“For 2026, we’ve raised the prize fund and introduced some testing new challenges, whilst also ramping up the food, drink, entertainment and more to ensure it’s a fantastic day out for the industry and their families.”
Attendees will also have access to a display of Mac’s Truck Group’s full line-up of vehicles, which are available for sale or rental.
Visitors will be able to tour the company’s 30-bay workshop facility, where the vehicles are manufactured.
Registration for the Operator Challenge is currently open, with seats offered to both competitors and visitors.
Mac’s Truck Rental is part of the Mac’s Truck Sales group, specialising in heavy-duty commercial vehicle hire and sales, with locations in Huddersfield and Perth, Scotland.
The company’s fleet includes beavertails, skip loaders, crane trucks, hook loaders and jet/vac tankers, with most vehicles built to order.
