Tokyo Juki and Mammoet Japan have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at expanding the availability of ultra-heavy lifting solutions for industrial projects across Japan.
The agreement introduces a framework for deploying Mammoet’s specialist lifting equipment locally, in compliance with Japanese regulatory and site requirements.
The increased use of larger components and modular construction in industrial projects is driving demand for lifting capabilities beyond what is readily available in the Japanese market.
Bringing in heavy lifting equipment from overseas typically involves adherence to local compliance, statutory certification, and on-site operational standards set by Japanese regulations and industry norms.
The cooperation between Tokyo Juki and Mammoet Japan seeks to address these challenges by enabling the use of Mammoet’s equipment on Japanese project sites. This includes its ring cranes, which have lifting capacities ranging from 1,600t to 6,000t.
The partnership is intended to make these resources available during early project planning stages, allowing teams to consider heavier and more modular construction methods before committing to final designs and strategies.
This approach may help optimise construction execution by identifying efficient methods while preserving project budgets and schedules.
The compact site footprint of Mammoet’s ring cranes facilitates their use across various project phases, including assembly and installation of industrial modules, as well as work related to offshore wind and other sectors.
Mammoet Japan representative director Yusuke Kakinuma said: “Japan is preparing for projects that will require greater lifting capacity and new approaches to construction.
“This cooperation creates a practical route for bringing Mammoet’s specialist equipment and engineering capabilities to Japanese project sites, supported by the local knowledge and resources needed to put them to work.”
The companies anticipate that reducing the amount of on-site assembly and lifting operations could help lower project interfaces and support more predictable schedules and costs.
The application areas for these heavy lifting solutions are expected to include offshore wind, nuclear energy, infrastructure, and the refurbishment or integration of offshore production units.
In June 2026, Mammoet finished its second significant bridge replacement at Amsterdam Centraal Station, under a long-term infrastructure programme overseen by ProRail.
