Henneberger Schwerlast, a crane and logistics company based in southern Thuringia, Germany, has announced the addition of a Liebherr LTM 1100-5.3 mobile crane to its fleet.
The purchase was made to support the company’s growing operations in the taxi crane segment, with flexibility and road mobility cited as key reasons for selecting this particular model.
The Liebherr LTM 1100-5.3’s capacity to transport up to 16.9t of counterweight on public roads, while maintaining an axle load of 12t, was a key factor in the decision.
The vehicle’s overall width of 2.55m also played a significant role, especially given the challenges of navigating rural roads in Thuringia, Bavaria, and Hesse.
Henneberger Schwerlast owner Mario Henneberger said: “We can use the LTM 1100-5.3 very flexibly as a ‘taxi crane’, as it can carry a large proportion of its counterweight whilst maintaining an axle load of 12t. This means we can already take on many jobs without having to use a separate vehicle for transporting ballast.
“The ballast concept even allows for axle loads of less than 9t and a gross vehicle weight of less than 45t. This is sometimes an advantage, particularly on bridges with weight restrictions. This issue is set to become even more acute.”
The LTM 1100-5.3 will be used for tasks including roof and hall construction, erection of electricity and radio masts, machine relocation, and assembly of precast elements.
Henneberger said: “The 62m length of the telescopic boom is excellent in this class. Furthermore, the LTM 1100-5.3 offers outstanding lifting capacities, particularly at long reaches.”
This is the first Liebherr crane in the Henneberger fleet to feature LICCON3 control.
Henneberger highlighted the new RemoteDrive capability, enabling remote-controlled operation of the undercarriage, as well as the importance of new driver assistance systems.
Henneberger added: “The crane operator has a much better view of the assembly situation. The work becomes more precise and safer. That’s why we also use boom cameras.
“The LTM 1100-5.3 is already our third crane with this feature, alongside an LTM 1250-5.1 and an LTM 1300-6.3.”
