US-based lifting equipment manufacturer Manitowoc has launched the upFLEX Rated Capacity Limiter (RCL), a load management system designed for Grove rough-terrain and truck cranes built between 2002 and 2023.

The new system, which replaces the previous iFLEX RCL models, is now available for purchase through Manitowoc’s global dealer network.

Manitowoc estimates that up to 13,000 existing Grove cranes could be eligible for this upgrade.

The upFLEX RCL enables owners of older Grove mobile cranes to access the latest load management technology.

It comes with a seven inch console and updated controls, allowing operators to move between working screens and select different operating modes.

The system is compatible across the full range of Grove rough-terrain and truck cranes covered by previous iFLEX models.

By offering a standardised interface and installation process, Manitowoc aims to introduce greater consistency and operational efficiency for crane operators.

Connection and installation have been simplified in the new system, with the RCL linking directly to the crane’s CAN-BUS via onboard Ethernet.

The company describes upFLEX as a “plug-and-play” upgrade, providing users with a uniform experience across upgraded machines.

Manitowoc customer support VP Matt Wong said: “We’re excited to bring the upFLEX RCL to market. We got lots of interest from visitors when we introduced the unit at CONEXPO 2026 and we know customers want to extend the life of their proven and capable Grove cranes – upgrading with upFLEX is a great way to do that.

“The plug-and-play design allows owners to harness the latest load management technology in a fast and straightforward way.”

The upFLEX system replaces earlier RCL units including the iFLEX5 (LI5G), iFLEX2 (LSQG), and iFLEX5 (CGMK).

Interested customers are advised to contact their local Grove dealer for purchase information.

Prior to this, Manitowoc introduced the Ergo Control System (ECS), an operational and monitoring platform designed for Potain tower cranes in emerging markets.
