Manitowoc has introduced the Potain MDT 99e, a new topless tower crane aimed at urban construction sites.

The crane, which features a compact design, marks the company’s first model to include the CCS Evolution control system.

It is described as enhancing both productivity and operational simplicity, while also aligning with the forthcoming EN 14439:2025 European design standard.

The MDT 99e offers a maximum lifting capacity of 5t and can extend up to 55m horizontally, with a jib end capacity of 1.2t.

Manitowoc states that the crane targets contractors working in space-constrained settings, especially in city environments.

Potain marketing and product development VP Thibaut Le Besnerais said: “The MDT 99e delivers the ideal combination of compact design, lifting performance, and ease of installation.

“Combined with the new CCS Evolution control system, it gives owners and operators a smarter, more productive crane for today’s construction projects and tomorrow’s regulatory requirements.”

The CCS Evolution control system is said to build on Potain’s previous Crane Control System, offering smoother movements, improved precision, and increased control for the operator. It also features a touchscreen interface for technicians.

The company claims this interface streamlines crane commissioning and maintenance and can reduce service downtime.

Additional features of the MDT 99e include Potain Plus software, which adjusts lifting speed and capacity; the Top Site anti-collision system; and Power Control, designed to allow crane operations to continue when the power supply fluctuates.

The Ultra View cab is available as an option for operators. The cab is described as featuring an ergonomic layout and controls, intended to make it easier for operators to adjust settings and reduce setup times.

Assembly crews benefit from a simplified construction process and access to the jib and counter-jib from the base.

Manitowoc has developed two versions of the crane, one for congested sites and another aimed at customers who require assembly by helicopter.

The model is equipped with a 25 LVF 13 Optima variable frequency winch and operates in permanent fourfall reeving. It is compatible with existing 1.2m K masts or L masts.

The MDT 99e extends Potain’s MDT City range and is positioned to fit into rental fleets or sites using multiple operators.

According to Manitowoc, features such as simplified maintenance and optimised transport are intended to help owners control costs and maximise operational efficiency.
