South East Asian logistics company Bok Seng Group has extended its specialised movement capabilities with the purchase of an Enerpac six point synchronous hydraulic lifting system and a new SBL 1100 gantry.

Tne new SBL 1100 gantry, has 1100t capacity and can be used to lift and position heavy loads in applications where traditional cranes will not fit and permanent overhead structures for job cranes are not an option. With a folded boom, the gantry fits into a standard TEU (20ft) container, enabling it to be delivered to remote and restricted sites.

The six point synchronous lifting system can safely lift, balance, weigh and launch resources and structures weighing from several hundred tons up to tens of thousands of tons. The system can control, from a central point, multiple compact high-pressure (700 bar) hydraulic cylinders being used to lift, shift and manoeuvre.

Applications of the technology, supported globally by Enerpac Integrated Solutions, range from petroleum drilling platforms and exploration machinery to land-based infrastructure items such as bridges, wharves and loading/unloading facilities

"Our new gantry lifters respond perfectly to the needs of our power generation and infrastructure customers in particular, but will help us to break into broader specialist lifting markets where safety, time efficiency and precision are paramount. These include areas in which we already have considerable experience through our broader activities, including module fabrications, petrochemical plant erection, and jetty and bridges construction," said Bok Seng Group vice-president, operations, Vincent Teo.

Enerpac sales and marketing manager Francis Koh says that, by maintaining the internal integrity of the structure -- and not exposing it to susceptibility to developing cracks and faults caused by uneven stresses during lifting -- the synchronous system helps to ensure the durability and safety of the structure in service.

"Not only does the PLC controlled lift provide precise contro -- down to 1mm or less during the lift, measured over multiple cylinders arranged in clusters -- but also it can account for variation in load over the floor or keel of the structure," said Koh.

"This means system operators can maintain outstanding control over multiple cylinders to apply exact force as it is needed in particular parts of a structure as it is hosted for weighing, balancing or prior to skidding into position for launch.

"Enerpac's heavy duty SBL1100 is one of the most advanced hydraulic gantry systems on the market," says Koh. The SBL 1100's full hydraulic system has three-stage hydraulic cylinders mounted upside down in an octagon shaped boom design.

The system's self-contained hydraulics make the SBL1100 a plug-and-play unit. The SBL1100 is provided with a mechanical system that can lock the boom in any position and take the full load. The SBL1100 has a unique drive system: a powered tank-roller system that reduces the ground load up to 70% compared to conventional systems with four steel wheels.

Teo says the synchronous technology is straightforward to operate and supported with full training from Enerpac, which has operations throughout south-East Asia as part of its global operations.

"Enerpac is always available for support when required, which is excellent for our customers, and they also enhance safety with their calibration services. Our satisfaction with their technical support is one of the reasons why we selected them, not only for synchronous lifting and SBL gantry technology, but over the full range of their lifting products. The relationship is very good, they have the same attitudes and values as us, so things get done efficiently and properly.

Teo says the Enerpac technology used throughout Bok Seng -- including up to 300 CLL work holding locknut cylinders -- was selected after comparison with other brands.

"We found during this original selection process that we got better support from Enerpac and a better range of quality equipment at competitive prices. These advantages mean we can stretch our budget capabilities to benefit customers, because our customers also want the most competitive and best.

"We value quality and so do our customers. All our equipment, right across our range of services, is quality brands, which is what Enerpac represents to us in our specialised movement business."
