The 10 year-old, 4.8 meter tall giraffe, Tanzi, is set to be re-united with her sister Shani in New South Wales, and is being moved as part of the regional breeding programme.

To ensure the move wasn’t too stressful for Tanzi the animal was given more than two months worth of crate training. As well as the potential for emotional strain, transporting such a tall and heavy animal also presented a number of logistical challenges. The route had to be planned in detail so low bridges were avoided and the move was completing in the fastest possible time.

Craig Membrey of Membrey’s Transport, said: "We have moved a variety of large and small exotic zoo animals for around 30 years. For this move, we were required to lift and transport the animal in a specially made giraffe crate. The Terex AT-20 Pick and Carry crane was ideal for this application. ainscoughIts smooth controls gave the crane operator the ability to position the crate with gentle, fluid movements throughout the operation."
