MOVING an air separation unit in Germany was a challenge not so much for the plant’s weight but more for its size. Special haulage company Kahl Logistik took the 110t, 62m by 6.2m by 5.7m vessel by road from Hanau to Duisburg on Goldhofer THP-L eight-axle and six-axle combinations, each with a short drop deck with a hydraulic lifting device and turntable to give maximum manoeuvrability. A pair of 460HP MAN prime movers hauled the convoy which used Goldhofer’s hydraulic height adjustment of 400mm and steering angle of more than 90° to negotiate road hazards and a 90° corner on site.
