Kentucky Pound Cake

2 sticks butter (225g)

1/2 cup shortening (115g)

3 cups sugar

5 eggs

3 cups flour

1/2 tsp salt

1 cup milk (230ml)

1 tsp vanilla extract

3/4 tsp lemon flavouring

1/2 tsp baking powder

Cream together butter, sugar and shortening. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Sift together flour, baking powder and sugar. Add this to creamed mixture alternatively with the milk. Add vanilla and lemon flavouring. Beat well. Bake in large tube pan, greased and floured at 325°F for 75 minutes. Cool and remove from pan. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with fresh strawberries or peaches.
