A Caterpillar AF 300 machine equipped with piling attachments is being transported from site to site during the construction of the new high speed railway network in Spain.
The transport company, Egodi, uses a Cometto Series ‘0’ modular semi-trailer to transport to 110t load over made asphalt roads as well as rough terrain, negotiating tight corners, cambers and steep inclines.
The Cometto Series ‘0’ modular trailer design is based on an independent hydraulic suspension system, giving more than 600mm of movement. This enables the trailer to negotiate difficult road conditions and at the same time allows for height adjustment either during loading or during load transport. All axles can be steered either from the truck or by remote control for greater manoeuvrability.
The semi-trailer consists of a 35t capacity gooseneck, a three row front module, a five row rear module and a narrow beam deck.
The CAT AF 300 is loaded onto the beam deck of the trailer using the trailer hydraulic suspension system to lift it clear of the ground. It is supported on the trailer beam deck on its axles, allowing the tracks to overhang the deck. Ground clearance under the tracks can be adjusted according to need. This allows the Cat AF 300 to be transported as low as possible, which reduces the centre of gravity and increases the stability of the combination while also reducing the overall height for obstacles overhead.
