The 50t capacity machine, which debuted at Bauma 2016, is the first Shuttlelift to incorporate a unique C hook design to assist with the handling of large steel coils.
“The SB series is ideally suited to today’s marketplace, in which components are getting longer, tandem picks are becoming more common, and plant managers are looking for a more cost-effective way to do business,” the company says.
“With just a single traversing beam and single hook, any load inside the plant can be easily transported to your yard without extra handling equipment.”
Shuttlelift designed the 50t gantry crane with coil handling capabilities to optimize production and performance without compromising steadfast commitment to serving customers.
In order to ensure adaptability and creativity, the company opted for a solution geared towards improving production, cost, and performance.
“The number one selling point for a Shuttlelift at our location was the ability to size the wheelbase and lift height to exactly fit our use and available space to manoeuvre the crane,” said Greg Huff, VP of technology and continuous improvement at Bull Moose Tube.
“The single beam design is a much better solution for single point lifts such as ours unloading large, 25t plus steel coils from rail cars and taking them to storage in our yard. Add this to the standard use of an operator on the ground using a remote control, and the overall job has become much safer and more efficient for us than a limited/restricted sightline cab operated machine.”
Huff adds: “When I was qualifying Shuttlelift as a supplier, I was very impressed with their operation, capabilities and customer list. The previous experiences and repetitive use of known design made the choice much easier for us.”
