Allied Systems Company of Portland, Oregon this month delivers its DC-8600CTS boat davit system to Northrop Grumman Ship Systems. The 7m rigid hull inflatable rescue boat davit system, which has a safe working load of 8,600lbs, is being fitted to the US Coast Guard Maritime Security Cutter, Large (WMSL 750).
The Large is a 421ft vessel with a 4,112-ton displacement at full load. It will be powered by a twin screw combined diesel and gas turbine power propulsion plant designed to travel at maximum speed of 28 knots.
It will also include an aft launch and recovery area for two rigid hull inflatable boats; a flight deck to accommodate a range of rotary wing manned and unmanned aircraft, and state-of-the-art command and control electronics.
Allied’s DC-8600CTS rescue boat davit system includes an integral boat cradle, active drive constant tension winch, anti-two-block system, self-contained hydraulic system, marine duty control box, and emergency boat access ladder.
It is completely self-contained, requiring only electrical power, and features a watertight tethered electronic control box for normal operations that can be attached to most any desired deck location, in addition to an auxiliary back-up control panel located on the davit.
The davit is powered by a 75hp electro-hydraulic power unit built from 316 stainless steel.
In another maritime contract, Allied Systems Company has delivered its DTH 300-100/20 boom crane to the AMFELS, Inc. shipyards, in conjunction with the United States Missile Defense Agency’s sea-based X-band (SBX) radar project.
The SBX platform comprises a large radar mounted on a modified fifth-generation semi-submersible platform. It is designed to track, discriminate, and assess incoming target missiles without the limitations of a fixed location unit based on land.
The DTH 300-100/20 crane is a 100ft fixed length crane with a 20ft swing-out jib. The crane – which has an electronically-controlled heave compensation system – is rated for 60,000lbs at 90ft and 5,000lbs at 120ft.
Its main hoist is rated for 60,000lbs with four-part line producing a hook speed of 90 fpm. The auxiliary hoist is rated for 5,000lbs with a one-part line producing a hook speed of 120ft/minute.
The main hoist maintains a minimum radius of 15ft, up to a maximum radius of 100ft. Boom luffing speed provides maximum to minimum radius in 101 seconds.
The company adds: ‘The DTH 300-100/20 is designed to continuously
slew through 360 degrees at 1 rpm. This specially designed crane features
a totally enclosed/insulated operator’s cab, including electronic joystick crane controls, 12-Volt power supply for VHF radio, heater, defroster fan, and
air conditioning.’
The SBX is the world’s first combination of X-band radar and ocean going, semi-submersible platform. Based on an oil drilling platform, the SBX is a large twin hulled, self-propelled vessel designed for stability in high winds.
