Manitowoc Crane Group (MCG) last month officially launched its two latest Grove all terrain cranes – the GMK4080-1 (GMK4100 in the US), and the GMK5220 (GMK5275 in the US) – at its facility in Cergy, just outside Paris, France.
With capacities of 80t (100USt) and 220t (275USt) respectively, the four-axle GMK4080-1 and five-axle GMK5220 are already attracting interest. Stemh, a company based on the French island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean, has purchased one. Owner Thierry Blondeau bought the crane in October, and it is due to be delivered next month. Blondeau will use it to help build a road through the island – La Route Tamarind.
Part of the road will pass through a mountain, and to prevent rocks from falling, large nets are being erected. The GMK5220 will be working on this, replacing a helicopter that previously did the work.
Meanwhile, French company Sogecofa has bought a GMK4080.
In addition to highlighting the new ATs, MCG displayed a variety of other cranes in Cergy including two 55t (60 USt) GMK3055 models, and a self-erecting crane. It also demonstrated the compatibility of its product range by using a new Grove GMK5220 to erect a Potain MDT 178 topless city crane.
Also on display at Cergy were Manitowoc Crane CARE’s latest mobile crane accessories – a reversing camera, and outrigger leveling support plates. The support plates are made from composite material and act as additional stabilisers. The AT models on display were configured with different sized plates, ranging from 600mm by 600mm (23.6in by 23.6in) to 1,000mm by 1,200mm (39.3in by 47.2in).
One of the GMK3055s also featured a BV-545 reversing camera..
