IMT articulating crane
“This acquisition is aligned with our decade-long acquisition strategy of expanding in commercial specialty truck markets. We believe IMT provides near-term growth opportunities in its existing and adjacent market spaces, complements our existing commercial brands – McNeilus, CON-E-CO and London – and broadens our commercial customer base and distribution network,” Bohn says.
IMT is the first crane manufacturer purchased by Oshkosh Truck.
IMT makes small telescopic cranes up to the 9.7tm 7025, which can lift a maximum of 7 US tons (6.4t) and has maximum outreach of 25ft (7.6m). Cranes on its mechanic trucks range up to the 10tm class (70,000 ft-lb) Dominator IV. The company’s knuckle-boom loader crane range from the 1.7tm 1.7/12 to the 71.4tm 72/516.
“One of the aspects of the IMT business that attracted Oshkosh was IMT’s strong, nationwide dealer network,” says an Oshkosh Truck spokesperson. “We also see potential to leverage the service capabilities of IMT and Oshkosh’s other distribution networks to enhance services to customers in a variety of end markets. In addition, IMT had an impressive lean manufacturing system in place that would foster a synergy with the lean program that Oshkosh is embracing.”
Oshkosh Truck has been in the headlines recently for its ongoing $3.2 billion purchase of work platform and telehandler manufacturer JLG, a deal which it expects to complete in January.
IMT last changed hands in 2000, American Capital Strategies bought it from Intermet Corp for $32.2m.
